Acupressure / Shiatsu

These Asian Bodywork Therapies (ABT) are touch-based modalities that stimulate the same points as acupuncture. Instead of needles, they use the gentle but firm pressure of the hands to balance the body’s vital energy (commonly called “chi” or “qi”), release muscular tension, promote the circulation of blood, and stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. These methods have a stabilizing effect on the body’s autonomic nervous system and internal organ function. A one hour periodic treatment naturally brings about a state of relaxation, calm and inner ease.

Chi Nei Tsang

This system of Chinese deep healing targets the ORIGIN of health problems, including psychosomatic responses, and builds the resilience of the body’s defense system by working on the abdomen (the storehouse of chi) in a way that triggers internal “adjustment” through client’s insight. Through massaging points in the navel area this practice frees energy blockages and helps train the internal organs to work more efficiently. This technique affects the five major systems in the body: acupuncture meridians, lymphatic, nervous, tendon/muscle and vascular.

Benefits of Asian Bodywork Therapy

Whether you’re seeing an Asian Bodywork Therapist for help with a chronic condition, to support your current health and fitness program, or simply to explore it as a way to compliment other aspects of your daily wellness routine, you’ll find that ABT can play a valuable role in enhancing your ongoing health. These therapies are useful for stress-related disorders as well as musculo-skeletal conditions, including:

  • Arthritis, fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Muscular tension, neck, shoulder, back and hip/leg pain or stiffness
  • Sinus congestion, allergies, asthma
  • Headaches/migraines, TMJ
  • Depression/anxiety
  • Digestive disturbances such as IBS and constipation
  • Menstrual dysfunction and peri-menopausal life-cycle changes
  • Sleep disturbances, insomnia
  • Repetitive-motion stress and injury (carpal tunnel, etc.)
  • Poor circulation, retention of fluid in the tissues
  • Low resistance to infection
